Certified Men’s Coach
&
Mindset Fitness Trainer
I coach men desiring a more balanced way of living focused on what is truly important to them.
My path towards becoming a men’s coach began when returning from a year overseas travel. I’d returned to the U.K and was having a difficult time readjusting so I attended a men’s talking group. In that group, I found the support and authentic feedback required to understand the challenges I was facing and start moving forward.
This experience of a men’s group led me to seek my own personal development but it wasn’t until I enlisted the support of a professional coach that I began to fulfil my potential.
For the first time, I understood that I required a guide. I understood.
I knew coaching was a skill I wanted to develop so I could offer others the service I’d been fortunate enough to receive.
My first step was to invest in some professional training. In 2013 I completed a certificate in coaching with ITOL (The Institute of Occupational Learning) along with a diploma in Neurolinguistic programming (NLP) with ‘The Brain People’.
I knew instinctively once accredited I wanted to coach men. Like other gents, I had tried to go it alone and found it difficult to ask for assistance with my personal development. Now trained I wanted to offer my skills to men as I had personal experience of that challenge.
I decided I wanted to merge my newly acquired professional coaching skills with a mens group. With the mentorship of an experienced mens group coordinator I began to host my own mens groups in south London.
I enjoyed it.
I was privileged to support guys with a variety of goals including; starting a new business, launching a first album and learning new skills.
I was doing what I did well. I was coaching and supporting others as they moved forward to achieve their best.
I had a secure career as an analyst working for the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) and was fortunate enough to have my coaching skills encouraged by a senior manager within the organisation. Operating as an internal coach I coached police staff and front line officers towards a variety of goals including - preparing for promotion, improving public speaking and developing I.T skills.
My coaching initiatives were successful and led to fresh opportunities. I would go on to lead a number of coach-focused initiatives, working with police professionals from a variety of law enforcement organisations.
My experiences developed my skills as an executive coach with the ability to support people with professional as well as personal goals.
In 2016 I completed additional training with The Co-Active Training Institute (CTI), the longest established and most respected coach training school in the world. CTI’s training is recognised as an ‘Accredited Coach Training Program’ (ACTP) by the International Coaching Federation (ICF). The ICF is a leading global organisation dedicated to advancing the coaching profession by setting high standards.
On completion of this training, I began navigating a career transition from MPS into self-employment as a men’s coach. Having worked primarily with groups for years I also made a pivot to coaching 1-2-1. This shift was an opportunity to develop further as a coach as well as reach men who wouldn’t otherwise engage with coaching in a group setting.
The arrival of my son in 2018 led to me leaving the MPS in May 2019 and moving into a period of leave as a stay at home dad with my wife heading back to work. During this busy time, I was still able to coach a small number of clients and record the coaching hours required to apply and become accredited by the International Coaching Federation (ICF) as an Accredited Certified Coach (ACC).
Throughout 2020 I relinquished proportions of my childcare duties dedicating more time to my coaching practice. Early in the year, I completed a groundbreaking 8-week mental fitness - positive intelligence training course. Positive Intelligence (PQ) is the science and practice of developing mastery over our own minds so we can reach our full potential for both happiness and success.
The course was timely as I began this training just as the global pandemic hit U.K shores. Plenty has been written about the increased mental challenges encouraged by the pandemic and government-enforced responses such as lockdowns. Acting as a counter-balance the program gave me practice, motivation, and structure to develop my mental fitness.
Inspired by my experience, in early 2021 I made an investment and trained as a Positive Intelligence (PQ) coach. In the second half of 2021, I began to support men with developing their own mental fitness. Coaching and facilitating them through the 8-week mental fitness positive intelligence program.
Beyond being a men’s coach I also:
Operate as a public sector executive coach and mental fitness trainer. I coach and train public sector professionals struggling with overwhelm or underwhelm. Website - www.publicsectorcoaching.co.uk
Volunteer as a mental conditioning coach and welfare officer supporting my local American Football Team - The London Olympians. Website - www.londonolympians.com
When I’m not coaching or parenting my two passions are comedy and sports. Both have influenced my coaching style. These endeavours have taken various forms over the years including; white-collar boxing, performing stand-up comedy, and standing in the pouring rain on a Tuesday night watching my local team Charlton Athletic lose 4-0 at home.
In March 2020 I was interviewed in connection with the ‘Simply Create, Business Podcast’. Video of the interview accessible below:
